On "Google Analytics Is Adding Google Business Profile Data"
Google's move to surface Google Business Profile data directly in Analytics represents a logical consolidation of its fragmented local business tooling, but it's solving a symptom rather than the root problem. The real issue isn't that GBP metrics existed somewhere else—it's that Google has spent years scattering critical business signals across disconnected dashboards (Search Console, Business Profile, Analytics, Ads), each with different lag times, attribution models, and verification requirements. Native integration is welcome, but practitioners should treat this as a band-aid that saves clicks, not as the unified reporting layer local businesses actually need.
What matters operationally is whether these GBP events (calls, directions, website clicks) will finally feed into meaningful conversion funnels and attribution modeling, or if they'll remain siloed metrics that look good in a dashboard but don't inform how you actually optimize campaigns. If it's the latter—just read-only reporting windows into what's already available elsewhere—you're spending time cross-referencing data that should never have been separated. The useful test: can you build audiences or goals around GBP interactions, or are you just looking at numbers?
