Stop treating AI Overview visibility as a tactical metric. The real finding—that these rankings bounce around until you've accumulated enough samples—just confirms what should've been obvious: a single snapshot of whether your content shows up in an experimental feature tells you almost nothing about actual distribution patterns or future performance. You need volume and consistency before you can act on the data, which means most shops tracking this weekly are making decisions on noise. The stopping rule matters less than the discipline to not optimize toward a moving target.

From the source: AI visibility numbers move between runs, so a single reading can mislead. A new paper offers a stopping rule for when rankings are finally trustworthy.
