On "Seattle Times and Newsday sue OpenAI and Microsoft for infringement"
The copyright lawsuits against AI companies are going to lose on the merits, and media outlets know it — they're really suing for leverage in licensing negotiations that should've happened upfront. Fair use is broad enough to cover training data, courts have signaled that repeatedly, and the plaintiffs are betting on settlements rather than precedent. What matters for SEO and discovery is the underlying question nobody's suing about: whether AI models trained on journalism cannibalize traffic and attribution enough to kill the primary revenue driver for news orgs. If they do, copyright law won't fix that. The business model breaks, not the training.
